“In my thirtieth year, in the fourth month on the fifth day, while I was among the exiles by the Kebar River, the #heavens were opened and I saw visions of #God . On the fifth of the month—it was the fifth year of the exile of #King Jehoiachin— the word of the #Lord came to Ezekiel the priest, the son of Buzi, by the Kebar River in the land of the Babylonians. There the hand of the Lord was on him. I looked, and I saw a windstorm coming out of the north—an immense cloud with flashing lightning and surrounded by brilliant light. The center of the fire looked like glowing metal, and in the fire was what looked like four living creatures. In appearance their form was #human , but each of them had four #faces and four wings. Their legs were straight; their feet were like those of a calf and gleamed like burnished bronze. Under their #wings on their four sides they had #human hands. All four of them had faces and wings, and the wings of one touched the wings of another. Each one went #straight ahead; they did not turn as they moved. Their faces looked like this: Each of the four had the face of a #human being, and on the right side each had the face of a #lion , and on the left the face of an ox; each also had the face of an #eagle .” #‭‭Ezekiel‬ ‭1:1-10‬ ‭#NIV‬‬ http://ift.tt/2bD1yx8 #biblequotes #bibles #biblestudy #bibleverses #bible #biblejournaling #biblescripture #bibleverse

“How deserted lies the city, once so full of people! How like a widow is she, who once was great among the nations! She who was #queen among the provinces has now become a #slave . Bitterly she weeps at night, #tears are on her cheeks. Among all her #lovers there is no one to comfort her. All her #friends have #betrayed her; they have become her enemies. After affliction and harsh labor, Judah has gone into exile. She dwells among the nations; she finds no resting place. All who pursue her have overtaken her in the midst of her distress. The roads to #Zion mourn, for no one comes to her appointed festivals. All her gateways are desolate, her #priests groan, her #young #women grieve, and she is in bitter anguish. Her foes have become her masters; her enemies are at ease. The #Lord has brought her grief because of her many sins. Her children have gone into exile, captive before the foe. All the splendor has departed from Daughter Zion. Her #princes are like deer that find no pasture; in #weakness they have fled before the pursuer. In the days of her affliction and wandering #Jerusalem remembers all the #treasures that were hers in days of old. When her people fell into #enemy hands, there was no one to help her. Her enemies looked at her and laughed at her destruction. Jerusalem has #sinned greatly and so has become unclean. All who #honored her despise her, for they have all seen her #naked ; she herself groans and turns away. Her filthiness clung to her skirts; she did not consider her future. Her fall was astounding; there was none to comfort her. “Look, Lord, on my affliction, for the enemy has triumphed.” The enemy laid hands on all her treasures; she saw #pagan nations enter her sanctuary— those you had forbidden to enter your assembly.” ‭‭#Lamentations‬ ‭1:1-10‬ ‭#NIV‬‬ http://ift.tt/2bJMjB0 #booksofthebible #biblejournaling #bible #bibleverses #biblestudy #bibles #biblequotes

“The words of Jeremiah son of Hilkiah, one of the #priests at Anathoth in the #territory of #Benjamin . The #word of the Lord came to him in the thirteenth #year of the reign of Josiah son of Amon king of Judah, and through the reign of Jehoiakim son of Josiah #king of Judah, down to the fifth #month of the eleventh year of Zedekiah son of Josiah king of Judah, when the #people of Jerusalem went into #exile. The word of the #Lord came to me, saying, “Before I formed you in the #womb I knew you, before you were #born I set you apart; I appointed you as a #prophet to the nations.” “Alas, Sovereign Lord,” I said, “I do not know how to speak; I am too young.” But the Lord said to me, “Do not say, ‘I am too young.’ You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I #command you. Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you,” declares the Lord. Then the Lord reached out his hand and touched my mouth and said to me, “I have put my words in your mouth. See, today I appoint you over nations and kingdoms to uproot and tear down, to destroy and overthrow, to build and to plant.”” ‭‭#Jeremiah‬ ‭1:1-10‬ ‭#NIV‬‬ http://ift.tt/2c5GSfO #booksofthebible #bibles #biblestudy #bibleverse #biblejournaling

“The vision concerning Judah and #Jerusalem that Isaiah son of Amoz saw during the reigns of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz and Hezekiah, kings of Judah. Hear me, you heavens! Listen, earth! For the #Lord has spoken: “I reared #children and brought them up, but they have #rebelled against me. The ox knows its master, the #donkey its owner’s manger, but Israel does not know, my people do not understand.” Woe to the #sinful nation, a people whose #guilt is great, a brood of evildoers, children given to #corruption ! They have forsaken the Lord; they have spurned the #Holy One of Israel and turned their backs on him. Why should you be beaten anymore? Why do you persist in rebellion? Your whole head is injured, your whole heart afflicted. From the sole of your foot to the top of your head there is no soundness— only wounds and welts and open sores, not cleansed or bandaged or soothed with #olive oil. Your country is desolate, your cities #burned with fire; your fields are being stripped by foreigners right before you, laid waste as when overthrown by strangers. Daughter Zion is left like a shelter in a vineyard, like a hut in a cucumber field, like a city under siege. Unless the Lord Almighty had left us some #survivors, we would have become like #Sodom , we would have been like Gomorrah. “Solomon’s #Song of Songs. Let him #kiss me with the #kisses of his mouth— for your #love is more delightful than #wine . Pleasing is the #fragrance of your perfumes; your name is like #perfume poured out. No wonder the #young #women love you! Take me away with you—let us hurry! Let the king bring me into his chambers. We #rejoice and delight in you; we will #praise your love more than wine. How right they are to adore you! Dark am I, yet lovely, #daughters of Jerusalem, dark like the tents of Kedar, like the tent curtains of Solomon. Do not stare at me because I am dark, because I am darkened by the sun. My mother’s sons were #angry with me and made me take care of the vineyards; my own #vineyard I had to neglect. Tell me, you whom I love, where you #graze your #flock and where you rest your #sheep at midday. Why should I be like a veiled woman beside the flocks of your friends? If you do not know, most #beautiful of women, follow the tracks of the sheep and graze your young goats by the tents of the shepherds. I liken you, my darling, to a mare among Pharaoh’s chariot horses. Your cheeks are beautiful with earrings, your neck with strings of jewels. We will make you earrings of gold, studded with silver. While the king was at his table, my perfume spread its fragrance. My beloved is to me a sachet of myrrh resting between my breasts. My beloved is to me a cluster of henna blossoms from the vineyards of En Gedi. How beautiful you are, my darling! Oh, how beautiful! Your eyes are doves. How handsome you are, my beloved! “The #words of the #Teacher , #son of #David , #king in Jerusalem: “Meaningless! #Meaningless !” says the Teacher. “Utterly meaningless! #Everything is meaningless.” What do people #gain from all their labors at which they toil under the sun? #Generations come and generations go, but the #earth remains forever. The #sun #rises and the sun sets, and hurries back to where it rises. The #wind blows to the south and turns to the north; round and round it goes, ever returning on its course. All streams flow into the sea, yet the sea is never full. To the place the streams come from, there they return again. All things are wearisome, more than one can say. The eye never has enough of seeing, nor the #ear its fill of hearing. What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun. Is there anything of which one can say, “Look! This is something new”? It was here already, long ago; it was here before our time. “The #proverbs of #Solomon son of #David , #king of #Israel : for gaining #wisdom and instruction; for #understanding words of insight; for receiving instruction in prudent behavior, doing what is right and just and fair; for giving prudence to those who are simple, #knowledge and #discretion to the young— let the #wise listen and add to their learning, and let the discerning get guidance— for understanding proverbs and #parables , the #sayings and riddles of the wise. The fear of the #Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction. Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction and do not forsake your mother’s teaching. They are a garland to grace your head and a chain to adorn your neck. My son, if #sinful men entice you, do not give in to them. If they say, “Come along with us; let’s lie in wait for innocent blood, let’s ambush some harmless soul; let’s swallow them alive, like the grave, and whole, like those who go down to the pit; we will get all sorts of valuable things and fill our houses with plunder; cast lots with us; we will all share the loot”— my son, do not go along with them, do not set foot on their paths; for their feet rush into evil, they are swift to shed blood. Job 1 New International Version (NIV) Prologue 1 In the #land of Uz there lived a #man whose name was Job. This man was blameless and upright; he #feared #God and #shunned evil. 2 He had seven #sons and three daughters, 3 and he #owned seven thousand #sheep , three thousand #camels , five hundred #yoke of #oxen and five hundred #donkeys , and had a large number of servants. He was the greatest man among all the people of the East. 4 His sons used to hold feasts in their homes on their birthdays, and they would invite their three #sisters to eat and drink with them. 5 When a period of feasting had run its course, #Job would make arrangements for them to be purified. Early in the morning he would sacrifice a burnt offering for each of them, thinking, “Perhaps my #children have sinned and cursed God in their hearts.” This was Job’s regular custom. 6 One day the angels[a] came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan[b] also came with them. 7 The #Lord said to #Satan , “Where have you come from?” Satan answered the Lord, “From roaming throughout the earth, going back and forth on it.” 8 Then the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil.” #booksoftheday #booksofthebible #niv #bible #bibleverse #bibleverses #biblejournaling

Esther 1 New International Version (NIV) Queen Vashti Deposed 1 This is what #happened during the time of Xerxes,[a] the Xerxes who #ruled over 127 provinces #stretching from #India to Cush[b]: 2 At that time King Xerxes reigned from his #royal #throne in the citadel of Susa, 3 and in the third year of his #reign he gave a #banquet for all his #nobles and officials. The #military leaders of Persia and Media, the #princes, and the nobles of the provinces were present. 4 For a full 180 days he displayed the vast #wealth of his #kingdom and the splendor and #glory of his majesty. 5 When these days were over, the #king gave a banquet, lasting seven days, in the enclosed garden of the king’s palace, for all the people from the least to the greatest who were in the #citadel of Susa. 6 The garden had hangings of white and blue linen, fastened with cords of white linen and purple material to silver rings on #marble pillars. There were couches of gold and silver on a mosaic #pavement of porphyry, marble, mother-of-pearl and other costly stones. 7 #Wine was served in goblets of gold, each one different from the other, and the royal wine was abundant, in keeping with the king’s liberality. 8 By the king’s command each guest was allowed to drink with no restrictions, for the #king instructed all the wine stewards to serve each man what he wished. #biblestudy #bibleverse #bibleverses #biblejournaling #bibleverse #bible #niv #booksofthebible #booksoftheday

Nehemiah 1 New International Version (NIV) Nehemiah’s Prayer 1 The words of #Nehemiah #son of Hakaliah: In the month of Kislev in the twentieth year, while I was in the #citadel of Susa, 2 Hanani, one of my brothers, came from #Judah with some other men, and I questioned them about the #Jewish remnant that had survived the exile, and also about Jerusalem. 3 They said to me, “Those who survived the exile and are back in the province are in great trouble and disgrace. The wall of #Jerusalem is #broken down, and its gates have been #burned with fire.” 4 When I heard these things, I sat down and wept. For some days I mourned and fasted and prayed before the #God of #heaven . 5 Then I said: “Lord, the God of heaven, the great and awesome God, who keeps his covenant of love with those who love him and keep his commandments, 6 let your ear be attentive and your eyes open to hear the prayer your servant is praying before you day and night for your servants, the people of Israel. I confess the sins we Israelites, including myself and my father’s family, have committed against you. 7 We have acted very wickedly toward you. We have not obeyed the commands, decrees and #laws you gave your servant Moses. 8 “Remember the instruction you gave your servant Moses, saying, ‘If you are unfaithful, I will scatter you among the nations, 9 but if you return to me and obey my commands, then even if your exiled people are at the farthest horizon, I will gather them from there and bring them to the place I have chosen as a dwelling for my Name.’ 10 “They are your #servants and your people, whom you redeemed by your great strength and your mighty hand. 11 #Lord , let your ear be attentive to the #prayer of this your #servant and to the prayer of your #servants who delight in revering your name. #booksoftheyear #booksofthemonth #booksoftheweek #booksoftheday #booksofthebible #bible #bibles #biblejournaling #bibleverses #bibleverse #biblestudy

Ezra 1 New International Version (NIV) #Cyrus Helps the Exiles to Return 1 In the first year of Cyrus #king of #Persia, in order to fulfill the word of the #Lord spoken by Jeremiah, the Lord moved the heart of Cyrus king of #Persia to make a proclamation throughout his #realm and also to put it in writing: 2 “This is what Cyrus king of Persia says: “‘The Lord, the #God of heaven, has given me all the #kingdoms of the #earth and he has appointed me to build a #temple for him at #Jerusalem in Judah. 3 Any of his people among you may go up to Jerusalem in #Judah and build the temple of the Lord, the God of Israel, the God who is in Jerusalem, and may their God be with them. 4 And in any locality where #survivors may now be living, the people are to provide them with silver and gold, with goods and livestock, and with #freewill #offerings for the temple of God in Jerusalem.’” 5 Then the #family heads of Judah and Benjamin, and the #priests and Levites—everyone whose heart God had moved—prepared to go up and build the house of the Lord in Jerusalem. 6 All their neighbors assisted them with articles of silver and gold, with goods and livestock, and with valuable gifts, in addition to all the freewill offerings. 7 Moreover, King Cyrus brought out the articles belonging to the temple of the Lord, which Nebuchadnezzar had carried away from Jerusalem and had placed in the temple of his god.[a] 8 Cyrus king of Persia had them brought by Mithredath the treasurer, who counted them out to Sheshbazzar the prince of Judah. 9 This was the inventory: gold dishes 30 silver dishes 1,000 silver pans[b] 29 10 gold bowls 30 matching silver bowls 410 other articles 1,000 11 In all, there were 5,400 articles of gold and of silver. Sheshbazzar brought all these along with the exiles when they came up from Babylon to Jerusalem. #booksofthebible #niv #biblejournaling #bibleverses #bibles #bibleverse #bible

2 #Chronicles 1 New International Version (NIV) Solomon Asks for #Wisdom 1 #Solomon son of #David #established himself firmly over his kingdom, for the #Lord his #God was with him and made him exceedingly great. 2 Then Solomon spoke to all Israel—to the commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds, to the #judges and to all the leaders in Israel, the heads of families— 3 and #Solomon and the whole assembly went to the high place at #Gibeon, for God’s tent of meeting was there, which #Moses the Lord’s servant had made in the #wilderness. 4 Now #David had brought up the ark of God from Kiriath Jearim to the place he had prepared for it, because he had pitched a tent for it in #Jerusalem. 5 But the bronze altar that Bezalel #son of Uri, the son of Hur, had made was in Gibeon in front of the tabernacle of the Lord; so Solomon and the assembly inquired of him there. 6 Solomon went up to the #bronze #altar before the Lord in the #tent of meeting and offered a thousand burnt offerings on it. 7 That night God appeared to Solomon and said to him, “Ask for whatever you want me to give you.” 8 Solomon answered God, “You have shown great kindness to David my father and have made me king in his place. 9 Now, Lord God, let your promise to my #father David be confirmed, for you have made me king over a people who are as numerous as the dust of the earth. 10 Give me wisdom and knowledge, that I may lead this people, for who is able to govern this great people of yours?” 11 God said to Solomon, “Since this is your heart’s desire and you have not asked for wealth, possessions or honor, nor for the death of your enemies, and since you have not asked for a long life but for wisdom and knowledge to govern my people over whom I have made you king, 12 therefore wisdom and knowledge will be given you. #bibleverse #biblestudy #bible #bibles #bibleverses #biblejournaling #niv #booksofthebible

1 #Kings 1 New International Version (NIV) Adonijah Sets Himself Up as #King 1 When King #David was very old, he could not keep warm even when they put covers over him. 2 So his attendants said to him, “Let us look for a young #virgin to serve the king and take care of him. She can lie beside him so that our lord the king may keep warm.” 3 Then they searched throughout #Israel for a #beautiful #young #woman and found Abishag, a Shunammite, and brought her to the king. 4 The woman was very beautiful; she took care of the king and waited on him, but the king had no sexual relations with her. 5 Now Adonijah, whose mother was Haggith, put himself forward and said, “I will be king.” So he got #chariots and #horses [a] ready, with fifty men to run ahead of him. 6 (His father had never #rebuked him by asking, “Why do you behave as you do?” He was also very #handsome and was born next after Absalom.) 7 Adonijah conferred with Joab son of Zeruiah and with Abiathar the #priest, and they gave him their #support. 8 But Zadok the priest, Benaiah son of Jehoiada, #Nathan the prophet, Shimei and Rei and David’s special guard did not join Adonijah. #bible #biblejournaling #bibleverse #biblestudy #bibles #bibleverses

Ruth 1 New International Version (NIV) Naomi Loses Her #Husband and Sons 1 In the days when the #judges ruled,[a] there was a #famine in the land. So a man from Bethlehem in #Judah, together with his #wife and two sons, went to live for a while in the country of #Moab. 2 The man’s name was Elimelek, his wife’s name was #Naomi, and the names of his two sons were Mahlon and Kilion. They were #Ephrathites from #Bethlehem, Judah. And they went to Moab and lived there. 3 Now Elimelek, Naomi’s #husband, died, and she was left with her two sons. 4 They married Moabite women, one named Orpah and the other Ruth. After they had lived there about ten years, 5 both #Mahlon and #Kilion also died, and Naomi was left without her two sons and her husband. Naomi and #Ruth Return to Bethlehem 6 When Naomi heard in Moab that the #Lord had come to the aid of his people by providing food for them, she and her daughters-in-law prepared to return home from there. 7 With her two daughters-in-law she left the place where she had been living and set out on the road that would take them back to the land of Judah. 8 Then Naomi said to her two daughters-in-law, “Go back, each of you, to your mother’s home. Joshua 1 New International Version (NIV) #Joshua Installed as #Leader 1 After the death of #Moses the servant of the #Lord, the Lord said to Joshua son of Nun, Moses’ aide: 2 “Moses my servant is dead. Now then, you and all these people, get ready to cross the #Jordan #River into the land I am about to give to them—to the Israelites. 3 I will give you every place where you set your foot, as I promised Moses. 4 Your #territory will extend from the desert to #Lebanon, and from the great river, the #Euphrates—all the Hittite country—to the #Mediterranean Sea in the west. 5 No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you. 6 Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their ancestors to give them. 7 “Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. 8 Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. 9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” 10 So Joshua ordered the officers of the people: 11 “Go through the camp and tell the people, ‘Get your provisions ready. Three days from now you will cross the Jordan here to go in and take possession of the land the Lord your God is giving you for your own.’” 12 But to the Reubenites, the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh, Joshua said, 13 “Remember the command that Moses the servant of the Lord gave you after he said, ‘The Lord your God will give you rest by giving you this land.’ 14 Your wives, your children and your livestock may stay in the land that Moses gave you east of the Jordan, but all your fighting men, ready for battle, must cross over ahead of your fellow Israelites. Deuteronomy 1 New International Version (NIV) The #Command to Leave Horeb 1 These are the words Moses spoke to all Israel in the wilderness east of the #Jordan—that is, in the Arabah—opposite Suph, between Paran and Tophel, Laban, Hazeroth and Dizahab. 2 (It takes eleven days to go from Horeb to Kadesh Barnea by the Mount Seir road.) 3 In the fortieth year, on the first day of the eleventh month, #Moses proclaimed to the Israelites all that the Lord had commanded him concerning them. 4 This was after he had defeated Sihon king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon, and at Edrei had defeated Og king of Bashan, who reigned in Ashtaroth. 5 East of the Jordan in the territory of Moab, Moses began to expound this law, saying: 6 The #Lord our God said to us at Horeb, “You have stayed long enough at this mountain. 7 Break camp and advance into the hill country of the Amorites; go to all the neighboring peoples in the Arabah, in the mountains, in the western foothills, in the Negev and along the coast, to the land of the Canaanites and to Lebanon, as far as the great river, the Euphrates. 8 See, I have given you this land. Go in and take possession of the land the Lord swore he would give to your fathers—to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob—and to their descendants after them.” The Appointment of Leaders 9 At that time I said to you, “You are too heavy a burden for me to carry alone. 10 The Lord your #God has increased your numbers so that today you are as numerous as the stars in the sky. 11 May the Lord, the God of your ancestors, increase you a thousand times and bless you as he has promised! 12 But how can I bear your problems and your burdens and your disputes all by myself? 13 Choose some wise, understanding and respected men from each of your tribes, and I will set them over you.” 14 You answered me, “What you propose to do is good.” 15 So I took the leading men of your #tribes, wise and #respected men, and appointed them to have authority over you—as #commanders of thousands, of hundreds, of fifties and of tens and as tribal officials. #booksofthebible #books #biblestudy #bibleverses #bible #biblejournaling

Numbers 1 New International Version (NIV) The #Census 1 The Lord spoke to Moses in the tent of meeting in the #Desert of #Sinai on the first day of the second month of the second year after the Israelites came out of #Egypt. He said: 2 “Take a census of the whole Israelite community by their clans and #families, listing every man by name, one by one. 3 You and Aaron are to count according to their divisions all the men in Israel who are twenty years old or more and able to serve in the army. 4 One man from each #tribe, each of them the head of his family, is to help you. 5 These are the names of the men who are to assist you: from Reuben, Elizur son of Shedeur; 6 from Simeon, Shelumiel son of Zurishaddai; 7 from Judah, Nahshon son of Amminadab; 8 from Issachar, Nethanel son of Zuar; 9 from Zebulun, Eliab son of Helon; 10 from the sons of Joseph: from Ephraim, Elishama son of Ammihud; from Manasseh, Gamaliel son of Pedahzur; 11 from Benjamin, Abidan son of Gideoni; 12 from Dan, Ahiezer son of Ammishaddai; 13 from Asher, Pagiel son of Okran; 14 from Gad, Eliasaph son of Deuel; 15 from Naphtali, Ahira son of Enan.” 16 These were the men appointed from the community, the leaders of their #ancestral tribes. They were the heads of the clans of Israel. 17 Moses and #Aaron took these men whose names had been specified, 18 and they called the whole #community together on the first day of the second month. The people registered their ancestry by their clans and families, and the men twenty years old or more were listed by name, one by one, 19 as the #Lord commanded #animal #biblejournaling #bibleverse #bible #bibleverses #biblestudy #books #booksofthebible

#Leviticus 1New International Version (NIV) The Burnt Offering 1 The #Lord called to #Moses and spoke to him from the tent of meeting. He said, 2 “Speak to the Israelites and say to them: ‘When anyone among you brings an offering to the Lord, bring as your offering an #animal from either the herd or the flock. 3 “‘If the offering is a burnt offering from the herd, you are to offer a male without defect. You must present it at the entrance to the tent of meeting so that it will be acceptable to the Lord. 4 You are to lay your hand on the head of the burnt offering, and it will be accepted on your behalf to make atonement for you. 5 You are to slaughter the young bull before the Lord, and then Aaron’s sons the priests shall bring the blood and splash it against the sides of the altar at the entrance to the tent of meeting. 6 You are to skin the burnt offering and cut it into pieces. 7 The sons of Aaron the priest are to put fire on the altar and arrange wood on the fire. 8 Then Aaron’s sons the priests shall arrange the pieces, including the head and the fat, on the wood that is burning on the altar. 9 You are to wash the internal organs and the legs with water, and the priest is to burn all of it on the altar. It is a burnt offering, a food offering, an aroma pleasing to the Lord. 10 “‘If the offering is a burnt offering from the flock, from either the sheep or the goats, you are to offer a male without defect. 11 You are to slaughter it at the north side of the altar before the Lord, and Aaron’s sons the priests shall splash its blood against the sides of the altar. 12 You are to cut it into pieces, and the priest shall arrange them, including the head and the fat, on the wood that is burning on the altar. 13 You are to wash the internal organs and the legs with water, and the priest is to bring all of them and burn them on the altar. It is a burnt offering, a food offering, an aroma pleasing to the Lord. 14 “‘If the offering to the Lord is a burnt offering of birds, you are to offer a dove or a young pigeon.

#Exodus 1New International Version (NIV) The Israelites Oppressed 1 These are the names of the sons of Israel who went to Egypt with Jacob, each with his family: 2 Reuben, Simeon, Levi and Judah; 3 Issachar, Zebulun and Benjamin; 4 Dan and Naphtali; Gad and Asher. 5 The #descendants of Jacob numbered seventy[a] in all; #Joseph was already in #Egypt. 6 Now Joseph and all his #brothers and all that generation died, 7 but the Israelites were exceedingly fruitful; they #multiplied greatly, increased in numbers and became so numerous that the land was filled with them. 8 Then a new #king, to whom Joseph meant nothing, came to power in Egypt. 9 “Look,” he said to his people, “the Israelites have become far too numerous for us. 10 Come, we must deal shrewdly with them or they will become even more numerous and, if war breaks out, will join our enemies, fight against us and leave the country.” 11 So they put slave masters over them to oppress them with forced labor, and they built Pithom and Rameses as store cities for #Pharaoh. 12 But the more they were oppressed, the more they multiplied and spread; so the Egyptians came to dread the Israelites 13 and worked them ruthlessly. 14 They made their lives bitter with harsh labor in brick and mortar and with all kinds of work in the fields; in all their harsh labor the Egyptians worked them ruthlessly. 15 The king of Egypt said to the Hebrew midwives, whose names were Shiphrah and Puah, 16 “When you are helping the #Hebrew women during childbirth on the delivery stool, if you see that the baby is a boy, kill him; but if it is a girl, let her live.” 17 The midwives, however, feared #God and did not do what the king of Egypt had told them to do; they let the boys live. 18 Then the king of Egypt summoned the midwives and asked them, “Why have you done this? Why have you let the boys live?” 19 The midwives answered Pharaoh, “Hebrew #women are not like Egyptian women; they are vigorous and give #birth before the midwives arrive.” 20 So God was kind to the #midwives and the people increased and became even more numerous. 21 And because the midwives feared God, he gave them families of their own.

#Genesis 1New International Version (NIV) The #Beginning 1 In the beginning God created the #heavens and the #earth. 2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the #Spirit of #God was hovering over the waters. 3 And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. 4 God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light “#day,” and the darkness he called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day. 6 And God said, “Let there be a vault between the waters to separate water from water.” 7 So God made the vault and separated the water under the vault from the water above it. And it was so. 8 God called the vault “sky.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the second day. 9 And God said, “Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear.” And it was so. 10 God called the dry ground “land,” and the gathered waters he called “seas.” And God saw that it was good. 11 Then God said, “Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds.” And it was so. 12 The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good. 13 And there was evening, and there was morning—the third day. 14 And God said, “Let there be lights in the vault of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark sacred times, and days and years, 15 and let them be lights in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth.” And it was so. 16 God made two great lights—the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars. 17 God set them in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth, 18 to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good. 19 And there was evening, and there was morning—the fourth day. 20 And God said, “Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the vault of the sky.”
